Has been a while since I last blogged, and contrary to what some people may think or wish,I have not fallen off the face of the earth.Things have just been a little hectic since the week before Thanksgiving and I haven’t had a chance to get out and fish…until yesterday. So I thought I’d get on here and do one more blog before the end of the year.
Have really been trying to get out fishing a lot lately, but the holidays, weather, winds and the tides seem to have been conspiring against me.Yesterday wasn’t the best of days, but it was good enough, even with the slightly low tides and the wind that picked up later in the day,not to mention the little bit brisk temperatures. But the boy and I, along with my buddy Brad, loaded up and put in at the beach complex about 9:00 a.m.
Didn’t go a whole lot of places.Headed straight over and into Trout Creek.Yes Robert,we did make it.Caught a few rat reds,a couple of sheepshead, and a whole pile of trout in the three hours we spent in there.Too bad the trout aren’t in season until January 1st.The reds and sheepies we caught on shrimp and all of the trout were on a variety of hard lures and soft plastics.Color didn’t seem to matter much as they hit everything from a black and silver xrap to bright blue and chartreuse storm baits, and just about everything in between. They did want it small though (Man if we could just find a few good women like that…).We also picked up a few ladyfish on the lures too.
After about 3 hours we had decided to maybe give the east wall a try and snuck out to the mouth of the creek to make sure nobody was sitting in the way out there. The little bit of wind we were getting inside the creek was actually a good 15 to 20 mph breeze coming right down the river and had a pretty good roll going on the harbor.Figured I really didn’t want to beat us or the boat up that bad and nixed the east wall idea. That left either the cut-off or Rock creek, and since I was planning on getting out of the water by 3:30,I decided there wasn’t enough time to do the cut-off and headed for Rock creek.Good decision.
We got in there and didn’t start fishing untill we got up to the islands after the first bend.Caught a couple decent sheepies right there but threw them back.Worked our way about a third of the way up through the creek and sat down on a deep curve that I have done well on before.Didn’t go any further than that curve, and didn’t get out of the water at 3:30 either. We went through 6 dozen shrimp on that hole and only a couple of them didn’t have a fish attached to them.Actually caught a couple of fish on one shrimp several times. The sad part about this whole story is that all those fish were rats.Several were close but the majority of them were in the 14 to 17 inch range. We did bend the hell out of the rods though and had a great time doing it. At 4:30 I finally said enough is enough and we headed back to the beach complex.
All in all a pretty good day when you consider how many fish we caught and the quality time I got to spend with my son (A.K.A.Jake) and my friend. What more can you ask for except that it continues on into the new year, and not just for me,but for everyone out there that likes to wet a line and spend some good times with friends and family? 2009 has been a rough year in a lot of ways for a lot of people, lets hope that 2010 sees things get better. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!! See you all then. Greg

I will say I hope this week’s fishing Is alot better then last week . That front that came tough made the bite a big pain in the you know what . But yes I was still able to get my guys out on some good fish. You name the hole And the bait and I think I tryed it . From shrimp to cut bait to fishing the reef ’s in the harbor. I tryed just about everything . But here are a few pics of the fish we where able to make eat. I was able to still get a few reds , cobia and snook to eat and some small sanpper I will say that most of the snook that we got was little guys . And we got those on white bait. Also guys every redfish I cleaned for my guys had spider crabs in them and little blue claws. every day was a whole new way of fishing I guess the fishing gods had me on my toes. But hey guys try fishing the open water and pot holes , That’s where we did best.. Also I did long runs to the pass just to bend rods with the macks and there is alot of macs out there . I had my guys using spoons and the don jig the macs loved them.Thats the fun of fishing here you got to be able to change as fast as the fish do. But guys don’t drive your self carzy, just have fun with it.Hey guys as I loaded the pics up I will say it didn’t look like if we had a hard bite But the only thing I could say is that we landed good fish just not alot in NUMBERS!!!!
