Sup Guys it’s been a while since I’ve been on and blogged truth is I am fully and I mean fully exhausted from a hot month of fishing. I hope everybodies been slayin em we sure have. I was supposed to get offshore with a close buddy of mine last Thursday for some nightime snapper fishin but the wind just wasn’t agreeing with us so we opted to not go out and get beat up. I talked to Angel up at the shop and was venting to him about my dissapointment with the wind. He said “dude let’s go hit up the tarpon in the pass it’s the hill tide at like 1 in the afternoon and the bites gonna be on!” For those of you who don’t know this is the time to go get em. During these parts of the month the crabs are just flowing like no tomorrow through most of the passes down this coast and the tarpon really feed like crazy. This is really a great time to go out, get worn out by big, entertaining fish, and to come home tired and content.
I just couldn’t say no to this one so we met up at the shop and the goal was to get my 14 year old brother Matt on his first man sized tarpon in the pass. We got out there about 2:30 in the afternoon. In about a half hour or so of idleing the weedline and dipnetting pass crabs we had enough to fish. About ten minutes into our first drift Angel hooked up and passed the rod off to Matt. It was on! Matt didn’t know what he was in for I tell you that much I tried to warn him lol. Within ten minutes the fish had about a 7 foot bull chasing him and he was running for dear life. Matt freespooled his fish and let him swim so he could get away from the shark. Than we started chasing him again. About a half hour or so later he landed his first ever tarpon we guessed it weighed about 120 pounds. He was wooped and had an ear to ear grin it was a good feeling. Angel plucked him a scale, we took some pictures, revived him and let him go. Than we got back to work. By the time the day was up we hooked up ten times I believe and got four to the boat. We saw some unbelievable jumps out of these fish it was just outstanding. Ahh I love this. I can’t put it into words how much I do.
Next day, I am getting off the water about 1 or so and I get a call from Angel. “Hey dude we’re gonna go hit them tarpon today again if you wanna come” I said ” your damn right I do!” So him and I and one of his fishin buddies Jason went out to do it again. Same routine, another day of great fishin. We hooked up with 11 fish this day, we put 7 or 8 in the air and we got 4 to the boat. In the two days of fishing I’de say our biggest fish to the boat was about 160 pounds or so, with our smallest fish in the 80 pound range. I think we had some bigger ones in the air but they wooped us. What a great couple days of fishing. I tell you guys what. Some of the best days I can remember have been when I got that Puerto Rican on the boat! He’s good luck or something I can’t really figuire it out?? Nah just kidden he’s a great fisherman, and a great captain if I must say so. Catchin fish takes passion. A lot of these guides become guides and it all begins with passion. They started doing it because it was what they love. Some are a little more passionate, and a little more dedicated than others. These are the ones that catch big fish, and catch them regularly. Angels one of em I can say that for a fact. Alright I’m done with this one fish hard guys fish hard and take a kid out there fishin with you it’ll be good for him. Frank I emailed you some pictures from these two days my computers being a jerk and I can’t get em up with the story. There’s some pretty good ones If you got a little time to put them on here . If not no big deal. -BillyB aka salty cracker
