Placida pier //  "trestle"

Robert &  Capt. Josh  12/30/2023 — The best land-based spot right now. The trestle has lots of sheepshead and some mangrove snapper. A few bonnetheads, a handful of trout and some random pompano have been reported. Occasional sharks and some small snook at night.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  12/16/2023 — Sheepshead are on the trestle and nearby docks.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  12/09/2023 — Sheepshead are thru this whole area. A few pompano have been caught in the pass near the docks. A few Spanish mackerel are around.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  12/02/2023 — Some bull and blacktip sharks from the pier. Small snook and mangrove snapper are under the trestle. But the big story is sheepshead around all the area docks, trestle and older wooden structure.

------------------------------------

Robert &  Capt. Josh  11/25/2023 — Lots of sheepshead stacking up. Quite a few dinky mangrove snapper. Some snook at night from the pier, mostly short but a couple are just big enough to keep. Lots of baby gags in the 6- to 10-inch range.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  11/18/2023 — Some sharks from the piers. A few trout from the piers. Some little snook scattered around. A few sheepshead from various points on the trestle.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  11/11/2023 — Snook are decent at night. Daytime anglers have caught mangrove snapper, a couple bonnethead sharks and inconsistent sheepshead.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  11/05/2023 — A few sheepshead are starting to show up but aren't consistent yet. You can use fiddler crabs but shrimp are great. Mangrove snapper are popping up, along with mostly undersize snook.

------------------------------------

Robert &  Capt. Josh  10/28/2023 — Some Spanish mackerel around bait. Short snook at night around the pier and bridges. A few sheepshead in the area, but it's not on fire by any means. Some smaller mangrove snapper. Redfish reports around the trestle.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  10/14/2023 — Some snook, some redfish action after dark, and a handful of trout. A few mangrove snapper at the trestle.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  10/07/2023 — Mangrove snapper at the trestle, along with some whiting and Spanish mackerel. There are also Spanish at the pass.

Capt. Josh & Fishin' Frank 10/03/23  — Sharks out by the trestle, but few other reports.

------------------------------------

Robert &  Capt. Josh  09/16/2023 — Snook at night, with lots of shorts but some keepers. A few overslot redfish. Spanish mackerel from the bridges to the pass. Lots of small mangrove snaplets all over the area. A good choice for pier anglers.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  09/09/2023 — Spanish mackerel and tarpon in the pass. Snook around the trestle at night, plus some redfish and mangrove snapper (which might be keeper size).

Robert &  Capt. Josh  09/02/2023 — No reports.

------------------------------------

Robert &  Capt. Josh  07/22/2023 — Spanish mackerel from the pier and from the boat. A few decent mangrove snapper and lots of small ones. A mixed variety of sharks, mostly small but we heard of one 5-foot bull. Tarpon have been hooked from the pier also.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  07/15/2023 — Some small sharks from the pier and some snook at night. Spanish mackerel off the sandbar and around the pier. A couple trout around, but nothing worth bragging about.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  07/01/2023 — Spanish mackerel, mangrove snapper around structure, snook at night, assorted small sharks, a couple pompano from the docks at the pass, a few tarpon around the bridges and in the pass.

Some smaller (and a couple bigger) sharks are around. Some pompano, ladyfish and Spanish mackerel have also been reported.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  06/10/2023 — A couple sheepshead this week. Some bonnethead sharks and a few bull sharks. A handful of snook at night. Tarpon have been rolling in the area but few have been hooked.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  05/13/2023 — Some sheepshead in the mornings, plus some mangrove snapper and a few Spanish mackerel thru the day. Snook, oversize redfish and some sharks at night.

------------------------------------

Robert &  Capt. Josh  03/25/2023 — Fair numbers of sheepshead still. Snook at night, including some slot fish. Shrimp are hot for the snook, or you can try locally caught pinfish. A handful of Spanish mackerel have been around.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  03/18/2023 — There are still a few sheepshead and mangrove snapper around the trestle, but they're thinning out a bit. A few legal snook have been caught from the pier. Red tide reports have vanished.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  03/11/2023 — Some sheepshead at the trestle, plus mangrove snapper. Snook and redfish are around at night. Spanish mackerel and small sharks are in the area of the pass. It's possible some red tide might move thru here, so be prepared to move if necessary.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  03/04/2023 — Some sheepshead, snook, redfish and trout reports, but there have been lots of red tide reports also. For now, I'd be very skeptical about this spot. If I were going to fish here, I'd be prepared to move around a lot in search of clean fishable water.

------------------------------------

Robert &  Capt. Josh  02/18/2023 — Some sheepshead and Spanish mackerel reports, despite the moderate fish kill from red tide.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  02/11/2023 — Lots of sheepshead, but it's hard to get bites. Pompano and flounder near the pass. Ladyfish and Spanish mackerel in open water areas.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  02/04/2023 — The trestle is producing pretty good sheepshead. A couple bonnetheads and trout are also in the area.

------------------------------------

Robert &  Capt. Josh  01/28/2023 — Sheepshead are fairly consistent; shrimp, clams, nightcrawlers or Fish Bites will all get eaten. There are also bonnetheads and mangrove snapper.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  01/21/2023 — The trestle is loaded with sheepshead, plus a few mangrove snapper and pompano. That's where most anglers are fishing.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  01/07/2023 — Sheepshead from the docks, but it's mixed — some anglers are hot, some are not. Pompano and permit mixed together. A few bonnetheads and mangrove snapper.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Robert &  Capt. Josh  08/29/2022 — Some sharks. Some tarpon. Good shot at a keeper snook from the piers, but redfish are slow. A few pompano and trout have also been caught.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  08/13/2022 — Good at night. Snook of assorted sizes plus some good redfish. Sharks up to about 4 feet have been caught. We're expecting mangrove snapper to be returning this week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Robert &  Capt. Josh  07/30/2022 — Mackerel near the pass. Snook scattered under the trestle, the bridges and the docks. Oversize redfish have been caught on cutbait or pinfish. Sharks around the trestle at night.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  07/23/2022 — Spanish mackerel in the pass, plus bigger tarpon off and on. Bigger snook at night around the trestle. Might be some redfish around.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  07/02/2022 — Some small sharks. Lots of snook at night, mostly small. Spanish mackerel and some ladyfish. Tarpon moving thru regularly, but feeding best from 5 pm thru the night.

December

Fishin Frank & Robert's report--12/30/14-------Shep head was kickin butt, but slowed
quite a bit over the last 2 days, I think the fronts are just coming too close together
to allow the fish time to get into a patteren. But there are still a lot of sheep head here
if you can figure out what or when they want to eat

Fishin Frank & Robert's report--12/19/14------- Lot sof sheep head,
Nice Trout lots of keeper and the are some Torut, but it is Sheep head time
fish striaght down next to the pilings and you will get your Sheepy feast

Fishin Frank & Robert's report--12/05/14------- Realyy nice size sheep head
Right unde the peir, and just out fromn the pier the Trout are holding I think they
stay a ways away from the pier because there is so many big Snook under the pier
they would be lunch if they get too close.
