Robert & Capt. Josh 06/29/2024 — Lots of black drum. Quite a few small snook. A handful of jack crevalle. The mangrove snapper are pretty much gone, at least the decent sized ones.
Robert & Capt. Josh 06/22/2024 — There are good mangrove snapper in here too, mostly around the mouths. Some black drum around, mostly in little groups but also big schools. A few jacks, small snook and baby bull sharks.
Robert & Capt. Josh 06/08/2024 — A few bull sharks within a mile or two of the mouths. A few small snook. Lots of mangrove snapper. A few sand brim starting to show up.
Robert & Capt. Josh 06/01/2024 — Some small snook. A handful of jacks. Some of the canals (Pelham Waterway, Spring Lake) have juvenile tarpon, which have sometimes been willing to eat small 3-inch paddletails, live shrimp or chunks of cutbait. They have been moving around randomly.

Robert & Capt. Josh 12/02/2023 — Snook are in most of the canals, and some jacks have been reported blitzing. East Spring Lake has baby tarpon for lookin' at. Some sheepshead and mangrove snapper have been caught. Mayan cichlids and sand bream are around, especially further inland.

Robert & Capt. Josh 11/25/2023 — Mayan cichlids and sand bream are eating cut shrimp around the docks. Some snook, mostly shorts but a few bigger ones have been spotted around the lights. Some jack crevalle might be anywhere. Some keeper mangrove snapper and a bunch of shorts. We're seeing sheepshead but not hearing about many caught.
Robert & Capt. Josh 11/18/2023 — A lot of Mayan cichlids this week. Little snook are getting very active. A few juvie tarpon are there but not biting. A few jacks have been caught on the troll.
Robert & Capt. Josh 11/11/2023 — Some keeper mangrove snapper in here, along with sand brim around the docks. Small snook, a few black drum, and the occasional jack. East Spring Lake has produced a few tarpon from 20 to 80 pounds; they're frustrating but keep throwing small soft plastics, big chunks of cutbait or live pinfish.

Robert & Capt. Josh 10/28/2023 — The jacks have been around. Small snook, decent sand bream and keeper mangrove snapper are around the docks. Small tarpon are rolling throughout the canals, but they've been more or less unhookable.
Robert & Capt. Josh 10/14/2023 — Plenty of catfish, if you're interested. Snook are popping around the area. Juvenile tarpon rolling but hard to hook. Several reports of sand bream, including some caught in the crab traps.
Robert & Capt. Josh 10/07/2023 — Some jacks have been busting small baitfish. Snook caught on the troll. Ladyfish near the canals mouths. Juvenile tarpon are rolling, not so much biting.
Capt. Josh & Fishin' Frank 10/03/23 — A few mangrove snapper and sand bream. For the bream use small hooks and pieces of peeled shrimp. Lots of tilapia and Mayan cichlids.

Robert & Capt. Josh 09/16/2023 — Sand bream and Mayan cichlids have been abundant. A lot of small snook and a few black drum have also been biting. There have been a lot of juvenile tarpon around the canal mouths. The Port Charlotte Beach Pier has had some small snook, maybe a keeper or two as well. A couple sand bream around the boat ramp and seawall.
Robert & Capt. Josh 09/09/2023 — Some snook, mostly smaller ones. A few black drum seen but not caught. Ditto the small tarpon. Mayan cichlids and sand bream have picked up, and there are loads of baby Mayans. The Port Charlotte Beach Pier has had a handful of snook, including a couple keepers. Lots of short mangrove snapper and catfish, too.
Robert & Capt. Josh 09/02/2023 — A lot of dinky peanut snook 12 to 20 inches. There are also a few that might keep. A few black drum around still. Juvenile tarpon seen but not hooked. Lots of catfish.

Robert & Capt. Josh 07/15/2023 — Quite a few little snook and baby tarpon, with some of the little silver princes actually biting. Black drum are hanging out in many of the canals also.
Robert & Capt. Josh 07/01/2023 — Lots of black drum moving thru, but they are more social than hungry. Offer them a frozen shrimp just in case. Juvenile tarpon are around and a few have been caught on shrimp and soft plastic paddletails. Decent numbers of smaller snook at night or early in the day.

Robert & Capt. Josh 06/10/2023 — A lot of little snook up to about 24 inches. Sand bream are taking shrimp chunks around docks. Black drum and baby tarpon have been seen but neither are really biting.
Robert & Capt. Josh 06/03/2023 — Fairly quiet, but there are lots of baby tarpon rolling that are frustrating everybody. Small snook, mangrove snapper and black drum are around, and a few of the drum are even biting.

Robert & Capt. Josh 03/25/2023 — Lots of snook, mostly short but a few legal. Troll lipped plugs or cast underneath the docks. A few sheepshead and small mangrove snapper have been caught. Juvenile tarpon are abundant and rolling, especially in the spring lakes. Some small bull sharks have been in the canals also. No jack reports this week.
Robert & Capt. Josh 03/18/2023 — A lot of snook, mostly small. Some keepers caught trolling lipped plugs or casting shrimp (real or plastic) under the docks. Small and med-small tarpon are in the Spring Lake and Edgewater canals, rolling but rarely eating. A few jacks have been buzzing around and would love to hit a big noisy topwater.
Robert & Capt. Josh 03/11/2023 — A lot of little snook. They can be caught around the docks or on trolled plugs. Juvenile tarpon are in east and west Spring Lakes for your viewing pleasure. Way in the back, sand bream and Mayan cichlids have been eating shrimp or worms. Some jacks in the 3- to 5-pound range have been hitting trolled Rapalas and Yo-Zuris.
Robert & Capt. Josh 03/04/2023 — They've perked up a bit. Lots of little snook and a few bigger ones. They're taking baits and lures under the docks and also trolled plugs. Some trout have been in the canals, mostly in wider canals and closer to the Harbor. Quite a bit of teeny bait in here too. Black drum moving around but not actively feeding. Not many jack reports, but Mayan cichlids and sand bream are in the backwater canals.

Water flow through here has changed a lot, so the fish are probably still trying to figure out where they want to be.

Robert & Capt. Josh 01/21/2023 — Mixed reports. Some areas are lousy, with not even catfish. Others have been producing snook, trout, small redfish, jacks and juvenile tarpon. Way back, we've been hearing about some sand bream.

Robert & Capt. Josh 12/31/2022 — A few snook, scattered. Try trolling lures, which might get you a jack or two as well.
Robert & Capt. Josh 12/24/2022 — A mixed bag in here. Sand bream, baby tarpon, juvenile goliath grouper, snook and black drum just showing up. A couple sheepshead, but it's not a flood yet. Visibility is up to about 3 feet, making it easier to see the abundant debris, so keep a sharp eye out.
Robert & Capt. Josh 12/17/2022 — Snook have been moving thru regularly. Jacks and juvenile tarpon are also showing up. Black drum have been spotted around seawalls but not caught. Bigger mangrove snapper and a few sheepshead round it out. Don't get too excited about the sheepshead; there aren't really enough to target yet.

The canals have a bunch of Snook which have come back from
the Beaches, and are starting to move back into the canals.
The Jacks are finding more and more places they like on the Port Charlotte side,
Soon it may be as good as
some of the PGI canals, the new water from the cahanges on the fresh water side
may be helping bring
some of these fish into the canals

Fish are popping at bait at night under the bridges, lots of cat fish in the
canals as well.
The Snook are starting to hit on this side of the pond as well. I don't think
they have a choice
But not as many reds on this side.
The jacks have slowed down but the blue fish are still here but thining out with
the fresh water
